MISSION AND HISTORY
“You can’t become what you can’t see”
This is true for all of us, our mindset and outlook on life is primarily shaped by the stories we read, the movies we watch, the examples of leadership we have; are all images which constantly inform us about who we are and what we can or cant do.
Unfortunately, there is a real lack of visible and accessible mentors from BAME Backgrounds especially in the North East of England. Having grown up in Newcastle and attended high school where I was one of 3 black pupils I know what it feels like to be misunderstood and to feel out of place. Now having children of my own and seeing them go through the very same experiences I went through as a child; I am determined to do things differently and this is how the vision of TIU was born.
We started by offering programmes and events specifically for BAME youth and professionals raising awareness and offering guidance on issues affecting our community today; in the last few years we have grown to offer training for individuals and companies alike in Leadership, coaching and mentoring.

TIU is short for THISISUS, which simply means I know, love and respect myself for who I am.
I want more than anything for BAME youth and professionals to know that people who look like us can be and do anything! Absolutely anything!

The Board is provide much needed support for the long-term success and sustainability of TIU for the benefit of its customers, now and in the future. It does this by providing clear leadership in setting strategy; managing risk and overseeing management’s implementation of strategy within a prudent and effective structure ensuring that TIU'S culture is aligned to our purpose, values and strategy.
